Pedal lines with angled hooks behave extremely erratically

When trying to drag the ends of a pedal line with angled hooks, the line will immediately begin to stretch and shift in erratic ways--if you try to drag a hook father than a certain number of measures, the line will sometimes stretch completely off the page.

The pedal line with straight hooks seems to behave perfectly normally, however.
