Can't Edit Staff Text Line

• Sep 22, 2024 - 21:21

When I add a staff text line, I am unable to edit the word, "Staff". I want to change "Staff" to "Sostenuto" in italics. Pressing [F2] or double-clicking on the text doesn't do anything. What am I missing?

Also, I don't see any way to change the direction of the end hook. From the palette, the default is a down hook. I tried changing its height to a negative number, and that seemed to do the trick. Is this the correct way change from down hook to up hook?

Thanks.

To edit the Staff text, select the Staff text line, select the Properties panel on the left side, and select the Text option. That is where you can change the Begin text, continu and end text for the line.

Changing the end hook height to a negative number is indeed the correct way to make the hook go up.

I ran into the same issue as op. Henk's solution worked, thankfully!

But I'm still a bit frustrated at the extra steps required for this work-around. Does anyone know if there's a particular reason why line text is not editable using the typical "double-click"? Or is this just another unresolved issue?

It’s not a workaround, it’s the correct supported way to edit the text associated with text lines. It’s more complicated than ordinary text because there is special handling of symbols also special handling of how lines are continued across systems, and other complications as well. In theory someone could design and implement a system where double-click provided access to the edit functionality - it’s just that no one has volunteered to do so.
