only enters rests, no notes

Hello All
I am brand new to MuseScore. I am trying to create a simple rhythm for kindergarteners using body percussion (hand clap 1 and hand clap 2) but it only seems to be entering rests, no notes. Is my program glitching or is it user error? My money is on user error lol. I have looked through the manual and have tried using 4 and 5 followed by 0 but it only enters rests. The rest is not highlighted in the menu when I am trying to enter the notes. When I hover I see a note, but then it enters a rest. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Yes, 4, followed by 0 will enter an eighth rest. Likewise, 5, followed by 0 will enter an quarter rest.

The first number sets the duration: 7 sets it to a whole note, 6 to a half note, 5 a quarter, and so on. The second number sets the pitch value. A 0 is a rest. You'll need to use the appropriate "note name" instead to get a note. For a pitched instrument, you simply enter the actual note name. For a percussion stave, you can find the appropriate note name at the bottom left corner of the score window when you are in input mode. (See the screenshot.) Some percussion instruments have multiple sounds: for example, the wood block has a high pitch and a low pitch, so it has two "note names" available (if I recall correctly, it uses "A" and "B").
