Save default section break properties

• Oct 8, 2024 - 03:19

I often use section breaks in my scores to delineate individual exercises for exercise sheets that I write for my students. The reason for this is because line breaks do not sync between the score and parts (I have tried the plugin for this, and for whatever reason it doesn't seem to do anything).

However, the section break by default always indents and resets measure numbers. I would like to change the default behaviour so that I don't have to manually set each one to the desired properties in each part (even with "Select all similar" this takes a while).

I would like either a way to set the default behaviour in the style settings or for these properties to be included in the properties saved when Ctrl-Shift-Dragging a customized element into the palette.

Hope someone has a solution, or the means to implement one.

Go to Format / Style / Score and uncheck Enable indentation on first system. This will apply to the actual first system and to the first system in each new section.

Sorry, didn't see that in your original post.

Yes, a section resets the measure number. The only way to overcome this is to manually change the measure number of the first measure in the section to add the number of measures in the previous section to the measure number. No, this doesn't reset automatically if you add/remove measures from a section, but when you update that number, you only have to make a single update, since you would immediately update that upon adding/removing measures in one section. Subsequent sections' corrections would remain the same, until you add/remove measures in THAT section.

If you want that to be a feature, you'll want to go to the github site and request it there. ... or join the programmers and write it yourself :-)

A section break has 4 properties:

  1. Pause, default 3s
  2. Start new section with long instrumentname, default true
  3. Reset measure numbering for new section, default true
  4. Indent first system of seection, default true

All 4 should move along with it when doing a Ctrl+Shift+drag to a palette.
But they don't, none of them, so this is not a missing feature IMHO but a downright bug and should get reported on GitHub, https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/new/choose
It is not a regression, Mu3 has he same issue
