musescore 4.3.0 constant delays ( spinning wheel etc) how do I optimise computer for MS-help please!

Hi Musescore community,
I am having some real problems with Musescore, I am constantly getting the spinning wheel and delays when imputing data.
I am running musescore 4.3.0 and my computer is an imac 11.6.
I am wporking on a pretty big score ( a Wind Symphony)
I have tried to out source my sound to an external device ( UA apollo twin)
I have tried reverting to factory settings a few times…

any advice really appreciated it’s sending me round the twist a bit!
