converting a midi file to a piano score
Hello all:
I am the newest of newbies. I've only just downloaded the program for the first time and I have no idea what I'm doing, so I need all the help I can get. Thank you in advance for your patience.
I have a number of piano generated midi files that I would like to convert to a piano score so that I can play them manually. These are midi files of tunes from the 1920's, so all are in the public domain.
Attached is one of these files.
How can I convert this to a solo piano score so that I can play it myself?
Best Regards!
John Bartlett

Read the handbook! https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4
In general, MIDI is not the most suitable format for saving sheet music. Nevertheless, you can easily open the MIDI file in Musescore or drag it into the window.
This is what I did with Musescore 3:

Yes, but that score is an almost unreadable mess. The OP (a brand new user) is looking for a way to clean it up.
Yes it is in the manual. But where?

Thanks. I was looking for anything to start with. It took 18 pages, and is sure interesting. I'll need to start reading the manual for sure. There must be something. I might try a different tune.
How does a .mid file get changed to the .mscz? Maybe a "save as" command somewhere?

File / Save As. It should default to saving as a .MSCZ.
Be aware that many (!!!) .MIDI files will look this bad. You will have to do a fair amount of fixing on all but the very simplest.

Simply save.

Thank you! I was able to print it out and see what it was like. Complex, but I expected that.

A second variant which does not have triplets, no or at least less.
I don't know what is correct.

Thanks! I wonder if there's a way to show an 8va or 16va for those super high notes n the treble? and there's even some in the LH

That's why I say MIDI is not a proper format.
You have to revive it ...

Well, it's a start anyway.
