Problems Updating Musescore

I've been trying to download the new update for musescore 4.4.3 for a couple weeks now but every time I do download the update the next time I open up musescore I'm prompted to download it again. This has never been an issue with any of the other updates before.
I think it's related that today after once again trying to download the new update I spent about 5 hours working on a score. Through the process I saved it multiple times and then when I finished I tried to save multiple versions of it (Bb, C, and with lyrics added) and so I kept doing what I usually do which is use Save As and save by a different name. I tried this about 6 or 7 times but no save window popped up so finally I tried to restart musescore. I was prompted to save before closing with I did 3 more times, but the program wouldn't close so I finally I clicked on "don't save". After attempting to save my score and spending a whole day on it everything disapeared, nothing was automatically saved, and none of my save attempts worked. I'm furious. What is going on???
