Place dynamic markings in the middle of hairpins, neatly
GOAL:
It would be helpful if hairpins could pass through dynamic markings neatly. Namely, if users could place a dynamic marking in the middle of a long hairpin. After the marking, the hairpin would continue with an open starting position. The hairpin would not run straight through the dynamic, crossing it out.
IMAGES:
See Sibelius screencap for ideal effect.
Other screencaps show Musescore behavior with and without Auto-Place
CURRENT SOLUTION:
Perhaps this feature already exists and I couldn't find it? If I understand correctly, achieving this currently requires a ten-step workaround for every instance, and colors are slightly off after export. See thread here for the ten-step workaround: https://musescore.org/en/node/372675#comment-1271386
IDEAS FOR ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS:
It would be nice if there was a quicker way to achieve this in Musescore.
Four initial ideas:
-
When a hairpin runs through a dynamic marking, it automatically adjusts to look neat. This would be ideal!
-
Hairpins have handles to control the starting angle/aperture (just as they have for the ending angle). This would allow users to place an initial hairpin, then a dynamic, then a second hairpin which they adjust themselves using starting-position handles.
-
A "continuation" hairpin symbol is added to the palette. Perhaps in Dynamics, Lines, or both.
-
Similar to #3. In the properties sidebar, users can determine whether they want a "Starting" hairpin or a "Continuation" hairpin.
Notably, there is already a continuation hairpin symbol, which appears when hairpins carry over across systems and/or pages. Perhaps this existing symbol could be leveraged to help solve the issue here?
Thank you for considering it!
