MIDI real time recording using the metronome

• Feb 18, 2025 - 00:00

Can I record a song score in MuseScore in real time? That is, I want to hit record, and using the metronome, play a song on my Midi keyboard and have it notated on the treble and base clefts. Because I am an accomplished pianist, I don't want to enter one note at a time, when I can play an entire song in minutes.

Thank you!

Short answer: No

Longer answer:
You can record a midifile with a metronome in a DAW, such as Ardour, Logic, Reaper etc. and then import the midifile. More or less the same thing.

And I recommend importing it with MuseScore 3.6.2, since this version has a much better support for MIDI import than the more recent MuseScore 4. You can then save a MuseScore file and open it in MuseScore 4.
