tuplet
I'm trying to create a tuplet: a triplet of 3 quarter notes to two beats per the attached. I followed the directions in the handbook, but can't get it to work. Help!

N = trigger Note Entry mode
6 = define duration of next note as a half note (minim)

Look at the second example here:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/tuplets#Triplet_examples
where a half rest of 2 beats is tripletized.

Thank you.

Thanks. How do you double dot a note. For instance a quarter note with two dots?

By default, the double augmentation dot (and, for that matter, the triple as well) does not have a shortcut. Makes sense: double dots are used FAR less than singles. You can add a shortcut if you use them frequently: see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/keyboard-shortcuts.
If you don't want to bother with a shortcut but you just need a double dot, it does have a button on the toolbar, right next to the single dot button. If you don't see it there (by default, it does not display), click the Customize toolbar button (a gear icon at the far right of the toolbar), find the entry for the Double augmentation dot (little less than halfway down the list) and click the "closed eye" button at the left to "open the eye".
