lyrics - more than one syllable per note

When I enter lyrics, every time I hit the "space" bar, the lyric box jumps to the next note (understandable). However, I am wanting to include more than one syllable per melody note. I am trying to format a line of music like is in my church hymnal -- and in the liturgy, it shows a whole note with a bar on either side -- to show one note being used for several syllables. Is there a way to do that with MuseScore? thanks so much!
