Custom instruments?
What about a mode where you can add a new instrument; name it, select the key it reads, select which MuseSound to use, and which category it falls into "Woodwind, Free Reed, Brass, etc.". Then, it is permanently on the instruments menu.

Depending on how much you want to go into the internals, you could check this:

A bit of a hack:
Officially, there is no support for a custom instruments.xml file anymore in MuseScore4x, but if you specify your custom instruments.xml in Edit > Preferences > Score > Score Order List 2 , this still works (also in 4.6)
This has been discussed many times on the forum, e.g. https://musescore.org/en/node/355778
Be prepared for some trial and error if you go this path.

I would like to be able to do this without editing internal files-- perhaps something like "custom instrumets" a la Flat.io?

If you add it to a score once, and then save that score as a template, You can just start a score from that template anytime you want to include it again.
