Shorten stems: the default values are correct or not?
I am always amazed by the aspect of stems (their length) of the quarter notes (with dots or not) and alone eighth note in a high register and a multi-voices context.
I also see the same thing in the scores made by MuseScore users on some instrumental forums.
This example, seen recently:
Reproduced from a scratch:
The stems or quarter notes, dotted or not, and the alone eighth (e.g. in comparison with the grouped eighth notes that are correct) have really a poor appearance, right?
See this small test with a mscz file:
1) with the default values : stems test 0,25.mscz
The first three systems are correct. But the fourth, no (from measure 10) . This happens as soon as you add a second voice to notes located in the upper register.
Personally, I found the answer by going to Style -> General -> Shorten stems. And changing the value of "Progression" (more or less 0.12sp, default: 0.25) or by changing the value of "Shorten stems" (2.75sp, default: 2.25)
2) File with "correction": stems test 0,12.mscz
For users who do not know this "workaround": would it not be appropriate to review these default values to no longer see this unpleasantness?

Of course, you can untick the default option "shorten stems" in Style -> General -> Notes (I had forgotten this step in the previous message)
But then the stems seems too long (to my advice) : untick shorten stems.mscz
I do not know if we can find an ideal or best balance?
