Issues Tying Notes

Hi there,

I am very new to this, and would appreciate any assistance.

I am putting in an existing piece in 2/4 time, and in a particular measure there is a 1/4 tied to a 1/8 note followed by another 1/8 note.

If I use the Tie Note button it actually adds a beam between the 1/4 and 1/8 note,

and if I just enter the notes it adds a beam to the 1/8 notes.

Either way messes with the timing. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong or how to fix this?
