Grating online accordion sound?

• Dec 11, 2014 - 08:29

Hi guys,

Impressively, the site's Sheet Music collection seems to have more scores for accordion than for any other instrument. I've pointed many accordionist friends to it.

Unfortunately, the accordion samples the online player uses are TERRIBLE. They sound more like an out-of-tune bagpipe, or perhaps a car that won't start. (Some people wouldn't be able to draw much of a distinction between the two, but that's another topic.)

Any chance you could fix that? If you're using a soundfont, there are many free and far more musical accordion soundfonts out there.

Of course if the instrument sounds aren't coming from your end, but are instead cheesy MIDI sounds on my computer, you can safely ignore this.

Thanks, N.

As far as I know the online player uses the rather small soundfont that also is the default soundfont for 1.x, TimGM6mb.sf2.
If you download the score and play in your version of MuseScore, you can use a better soundfont, like e.g. Fluid R3 GM,and in 2.0 Beta 1 (and later nightly builds) you will be using a better default soundfont (FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3)

Check http://musescore.com/groups/improving-musescore-com, in http://musescore.com/groups/improving-musescore-com/discuss/493281 it is mentioned that musescore.org will switch to the better soundfont of 2.0, as soon as that gets released.
Also see http://musescore.com/groups/improving-musescore-com/discuss/20498, which confirms what I said about the currently used soundfont
