Change sound of instruments

I am writing music for a drum line and since there are no marching drum instruments I used the Timpani as the bass drum part. My question is how do I make the timpani sound like a drum instead of a piano. I have gone to "display" and clicked "mixer" to try and change the sound but it only gives me the option of bright piano.
