Staccatos are not appearing immediately
In the stable version of Musescore, if you added staccatos, they appeared immediately and quickly. In the ver.2674 beta release, they only appear after you move onto a different note, and there is also a momentary lag each time a staccato is entered. (If it matters, I was entering them using the keyboard shortcut)

Am I to understand that you access the period via shift+comma?
On my keyboard it works instantly, but my period is accessible without using the shift key.

It is actually Shift+.. Period by itself extends the duration of the note with an augmentation dot.

Right
The staccato happens instantly for me using r. 2717 nightly , Windows XP. Whether I'm in note entry mode or not.

I restarted musescore several times, and the problem seems to have cleared itself out. (There were other strange glitches happening, with slurs and note ornamentations - these also have cleared out)
