Volta snap

I really like the way the 1st ending volta snaps to the size of a bar, but it seems to me that it should snap from the beginning barline of the selected bar to the repeat barline rather than being just 1 bar long and having to be manipulated into the proper position and size.. Or, is there some way in which a volta is used without a repeat barline?
