note stacking on drums

• Feb 22, 2015 - 17:40

Hey, I know that this is a known thing, so if it has already been solved please point me to the right place. Can we please have a way to stack notes onto existing ones. I realize that holding control works for most things, but when I write drum parts it it always replaces the note no matter what, which is really a problem since I (like most people) write my drum parts in separate rhythms. For example, If I already have a kick and snare pattern layed down and tehn I want to add hi hats over it, it just replaces the notes. What can I do to fix this/is this a feature that needs implementation? thanks!

Normally, as one enters notes, the cursor advances to the next position, so:

To enter notes played simultaneously, and having the *same* duration within the staff, enter the first note, hold 'Shift', then any subsequent note will be stacked onto the first note. This is used for parts with identical rhythms.

To enter notes played simultaneously, and having a *different* duration within the staff, use voices:

This is used for parts with different rhythms.

Regards.

If the notes have different rhythms, then that is multiple *voices* in more technical terms. For drums, that should be taken care automatrically if the drums are set up to be in different voices by default, but if you are trying to create separate rhythms in drums that are normally the same voice, you would need to override that. Posting the score you are having problmes with and describing precisely what you are trying to do would help, but it's pretty much always possible and not especially hard once you get the hang of it.
