Not opening under XP
I have downloaded version 0.9.5 and the latest beta, and can get neither to open with my XP (with all SP's and updates). Windows comes up with a message to say "mscore.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close". Have restarted computer, and uninstalled & reinstalled four times.
I see that there have been just one or two topics before that relate to opening issues, but haven't yet seen any clearcut "this is the problem" responses. Any tips or tricks, please?

Has MuseScore worked for you in the past?
Do you have other MIDI-related software installed?
Do you have both the 0.9.5 version and the 0.9.6 beta installed? If just one which one do you have installed at the moment?

I am wholly new to this kind of software - newly downloaded - it has never worked.
I have no other MIDI related software that I am aware of. Hang on - does Audacity count (I don't think so) - that's all that I can think of.
I have 0.9.6 installed at present, but previously have twice downloaded and twice installed (and uninstalled) 0.9.5.

Check the size of the installer file you downloaded. It should be 24 MB. Is it possible that the download got corrupted?
Previously people reporting startup crashes had it working initially or they had other software that was interfering. Your's may be a new case. If you care to dig a little further you might try a debug version of MuseScore and see if it gives us any useful information.

Thanks for reply.
The sizes of the earlier downloads are - 20,013 (version 9.5) and 24,477 (version 9.6).
The debug version (342,221 after extraction) failed to open, the error message saying that QtCore4.dll was not found. This happened when using both command line and direct icon-click approaches. But then I cottoned on to the possibility that it should have been extracted into the same folder as the "old" .exe file (since there is no setup process as part of the debug file structure), so I then copied the .exe file (after renaming it) into the folder where version 9.5 resides and tried again.
This time got the error message could locate Z9qBadAllocv in QtCore4.dll
I have attached the Windows error file, should that be of any use.

Do you have another version of Qt installed?
To investigate a little bit more, could you rename c:\program files\samson\softpre\swsamsonasiodriver.dll to something different and then run musescore?

Interesting, that.
I changed the samson.dll filename, and MuseScore then opened, and seemed to be working OK.
I have checked to ensure that my Samson USB microphone works, too - and it does.
I have NOW changed the samson file back to what it was - and Muse still opens OK !!! ???
Thanks so much - the wonders of .......

Lasconic, out of curiosity how did you work that out?

It's not the first time we got problem with driver/sound dll... I don't know why they are loaded. I think it's due to Portaudio and the ASIO support, but not sure about this.
I checked the error reports and look for a unknown dll. I googled it and apparently other people have the same issue with Cubase, so I suggest to remove it and it works :)
