Repeats within D.S. al Coda not working

• Jun 16, 2015 - 15:21

Hi;
New here & really enjoying the software. After over 30 years as a full time musician, I've decided it's time to improve on my reading/writing skills, at least for simple guitar chord charts. I play pop, rock, blues, country.

I'm having an issue with the attached file during playback and I'm not sure if it's a bug or my chart. This is the 1st chart I've done with MS.
I want the song to play Verse-1st ending, Verse, 2nd ending, chorus-2x & then back to the Verse with the repeat, but with 3rd & 4th endings. When it goes from the D.S al Coda to the Segno, it ignores the repeats in the Verse, but does do it in the chorus. It just plows through the whole Verse line, including both 3 & 4 endings.
The rest of the song plays like it should.
Also, in the SOLO, is there a way to make the repeats of 4x in a different way than just writing it?

Thanks!

Repeats are not supposed to be taken during a DS or DC unless there is an explicit indication to the performer to tell him to do so. In any event, MuseScore's built-in playback function doesn't have a way to specify that non-default behavior - it always does the standard thing and skips repeats on the DS or DC.

To get a human to play a repeat 4X, you have to simply write that in. To get MuseScore's built-in playback to do this as well, you have to right click the last measure of the repeat, select Measure Properties, and change the "Repeat count" to 4.

Thanks Marc;

OK, that makes sense; it was me, as I suspected. So, I would just need to input text "Play repeats both times" or something along those lines?
I feel a little silly learning this stuff after all these years, but I need to be able to pass on my charts to other musicians without them looking at them like they're ancient scrolls. Up to now, I've been using my own bastardized version of the Nashville # system, but that can be limiting.

Thanks again for the quick reply!

Yes. "Take repeats" is pretty common wording in my neck of the woods. Realisitcally, this is not something everyone necessary knows or agrees .on, so I prefer not to leave it to chance, and generally put an explicit "No repeatds" or "Take repeats" on all my DS's if repeats are present.

I've changed the repeats to 4 but it's still skipping the repeats during the Coda section. Anything else I might be doing wrong?

Thanks

Hard to say without seeing the actual score - use the 'File attachments" below where you type your reply. Also say what version of MuseScore. It usually works as expected for me in the current version 2.0.2, although there are a few unusual corner case situations that don't.
