Playback problems

I just downloaded the software this evening, I have a piece that is already written that I would like to get on this program for easyier editing. However, when I write it all the measures in the entire piece play at once, instead of the first then second and so on. I know for a fact that this has to do with my ineptness, but it is really frustrating
