Some notes which might be of some help (or not). All my private opinion. So don't let them hinder you.

Good usage of the original theme.
Did you use a different text font for you markings such as mf? The font looks damaged, letters are incomplete.
bar 15 trumpet starts f then at bar 23 goes to ff but scored lower. The effect would be greater if pitch was switched.
A high c for the soprano's will be beyond many an amateur choir
much more so the high f for the basses.
What ever happened at bar 97? The keychange is missing from almost all parts.
The pitch changes for the timpani bar 21 and further, need a lot of timpani, the changes come to fast for tuned timpani.
A valved instrument, like the mellophone, can't play glissandi (bar 41)
I like the structure of the piece, and the general sound is going in the right direction. In the end you have choosen for fff. Which makes a change from the prayer (give us peace) to a cry
Overall I enjoyed your piece, but it needs some practical changes.

I hope you aren't too dishartened by my comments, keep up the good work,

Keep well, Ursus

Thanks for your comments...Instead of melophone I finally replaced it with the french horn part which i meant to use in place. The Glissando for french horns is one of my favorite little tricks that I do when I play brass. I fixed the voice leading on some parts and edited the soprano part heavily.

Hi,

"I (...) edited the soprano part heavily."
Was the score that is attached to this topic updated with these changes? If not, could you post updated version?

"A high c for the soprano's will be beyond many an amateur choir
much more so the high f for the basses."
I'm singing in a semi-professional choir and while some of our sopranos can sing high c quite well, the high f in basses would sound really bad.
I'm a bass myself and i really prefer singing low F (the one two octaves lower) instead of high f :)
By the way, high bes for tenor is also too high in my opinion. Our tenors begin complaining around g, and anything above a is rather beyond their capabilities.
Have you considered transposing the whole piece a major second down? ;)

Except these i like your piece :)

The requiem is not my piece, I was just commenting.

As on range for voices. I keep my own choir as a reference but I am aware other choirs require other standards. I sing 1st tenor, and a high a is nothing out of the ordinary. Tomorrow we perform the Missa Solemnis by Beethoven, that is the standard expected. But When I movrr to my neigbouring church-choir standards (and notes) are quite a bit lower.

Thank you all for your comments, ill have the newer version up later this month, and i'll try transposing it down.

Teh most professional thing I have seen here. The brass writing sounds great.I am pianist and string player so I dont know how well it suits them but structurally and texture wise u have a finished piece. Why no tempo marking and why sooo fast. Requiem aeternam? Would like more sophisticated harmony but 21st century allows everything. You seem masterful in arranging layout of timbres and combining instruments. Very impressive work Hear Faure requiem, Schoenberg's Moses und Aaron sometime or Berlioz if u dont already know them.we are all learning from the great imaginations i would say. can't wait to hear your next post!
