always take send ending/volta

• Aug 2, 2015 - 18:18

I wish there were a way with musescore to have the playback always take the 2nd ending of each volta. I think there is a way to have it play both voltas one after another, i.e. ignore repeats. But that's not really the same thing.

Here's an idea, Jim.

Perhaps Marc will chime in with something better, however, could you make a copy of the score and delete all the first endings, and then play back the second score? You could add your edits to the second score, and then copy those edited bars to the first score. Just a thought. I don't know if this would work.

Hi Lee, are you suggesting that I maintain two copies of the score, one as originally written by the author, and a modified version with the 1st endings removed, and when I change one, make sure to remember to make the same change in the other? Yes this is the only way that I know of at the moment, which is one reason I wish the feature existed. One problem with maintaining two different versions is that the measure numbers are different. Once I delete a measure containing the 1st endding, all the trailing measures change their measure numbers.

Hi Jim,

I thought there may be a hitch somewhere :). I never thought about measure numbers. I guess it really depends on why you need a score without the first endings.

What about this idea? Suppose you have three first endings you wish to bypass. Could you begin the measure numbers at measure four? For example, the first three measures of the score are not numbered. Therefore, measure four is actually measure one. If you need to make reference to those "unnumbered" measures during a practice, they'd be very easy to spot.
