Musescore menu's are dead

• Sep 23, 2010 - 15:54

After first installation, I could open menu's, click a few notes, which sound.
But then very soon all menu buttons are frozen. Sounds are heard when clicking notes
I also can move the score up or down.

I have installed v 0.9.6.2. After de-installation, reboot the computer, and installation again.
immediately all the menu buttons are inoperative.

After deinstallation and making a fresh install of v 0.9.6.3 (I think its still beta)
the first actions the menu's buttons work, but after a few clicks also are froozen,
restart of reboot or reinstall does not help

I also tried the start the mscore.exe with admin rights and compatibility with Win XP SP3
But this did not make a difference.

My computer is a very recent and fast model with windows 7 home prem. 32 bit

I was looking vor versione 0.9.5.x to try, - you never know - but could not find and download it.

Anu suggestion to solve this is very welcome.

I just could find version 0.9.5, which works fine.
So it seems the version 0.9.6.2 and 0.9.6.3 that has the problem on my configuration.

Dear David,

The screencaptured video (MPG) is not accepted by the forum file upload.
Therefor I have put it on my website for download.
http://www.jveneman.nl/musescore.mpg

1) I tried to use menu, no succes, buttons change but menu don't open
2) shifting the score, its still possible
3) delete few notes - is possibe
4) again tried to save uning the "bestand" button
and tried other menu bootons, but no menu opens

I hope this clarifies what I experienced.
Please don't hesitate to contact me for more details or tests

Success and regards

Dear David.

I have done so, but it did not make a difference
I can see at start-up the Musescore has reverted back to default settings.

I searched for the settings file, "MuseScore.ini" but I cannot find it. also not with a global search on teh programs disk
C:\Users\Jaap\AppData\Local\MusE\MuseScore\
this location does contain the "plugins" directory as well as the file "sessions"

I have started Musescore a few times.

Could be that Musescore was not able to make this setting file or save it?

Very Sorry,
I was looking at the wrong place. The correct directory as well as the ini file is available.
So this is not causing the problem. The date of the file is current and equal to the installation time.

What can I do more to check.
Where can I donwload the debug version?

Dear David I did extract the debug version and did run the runDebug.bat"" file
The result running it the time was lengthy with many "missing.... lines
I cound not capture that.

Running the second time I could capture see the attached "musescore debug.txt"

Running the mscore.exe form the bin file was captured in the attached "musecore debug run.txt"
The first two line in it, indicated that initiating the midi interface was not succesfull.
(I have a yamaha Tyros keyboard, for which I have installed a midi driver from Yamaha)
Then left clicking the "File" button in the top menu and draggin over the menu buttons to left cause the rest of the
lines in the captured command window.
Normal clicking the menu button resulted normally in opening the submenu. Although
after quite some different of these clicking menu actions musesore crashes.

I hope this helps. Let me know if i can do some more testing

After having used the debug version I tried the 0.9.6.2 stable version.
I found that menu buttons worked again, but only a few times and then again became inactive
after a restart of the 0.9.6.2 version immediately all buttons were inactive
Repeating the a few times gave the same result.

I noticed the init midiinterface failed in the debug file.
My keyboard, connected via USB to the computer was switched off.
when the KB is switched on, ther is no midi interface failed message in the debug file.

I might have a lead. Can you check in Control Panel -> Program Features -> Turn Windows Features On or Off, there is a small feature called Tablet PC Optional. Is that on ? Can you try to put it off and run a normal MuseScore?

Do you have any Windows Accessibility features on ?

I checked as said. I found that the Tablet PC was configured to be on.
I removed the makr, had t restart Windows 7. Unfortunately MuseScore still has the
the same problem only occasionally after starting mscore I can open one or a second menu
but then the menu is inoperable again, and most time remain after terminating and starting again

I have a few features configured on. These are:
External difference compression
Media parts
Games
Windows Gadget Platform
Windows Search
XPS services
XPS viewer

marked blue are:
printing and documentservices
MS Framework 3.51
