importing midi file ?!?!

• Dec 16, 2010 - 17:12

I set up a new project for piano with a bass and treble clef. Then I attempted to import a midi file. It did import, but apparently not to my project. Instead the midi info was notated in a new project within musescore with a new tab named as the .mid file I had attempted to import. The import did keep the correct key signature, but not the separate bass and treble clefs.

I got the same results whether dragging the file or searching through files.

Help please!

thx

Opening a MIDI will open a new score. A MIDI file does not contain information about music notation. After you open a file you can split the staff into two by right-clicking on an empty part of a measure and choosing "Split Staff". You can also use copy and paste to move the notes over to the new score you set up, if you want to.

Where did you get the MIDI file? If you are transferring from other software, MusicXML is a much better option than MIDI. See [[nodetitle:Export]] for details.

thx for the quick response. Problems solved.

I am using midi files in a DAW and transposing (wrong word prolly) the midi info into notation for better players than I in the studio, and just small sections at that. So for my purposes midi files are OK.
Thanks again for the the timely response!!!
