Word Extensions for Lyrics?

• Nov 6, 2015 - 15:24

Hi all,

I searched the forums and only found one thread about this, and it was from 2012. To make matters worse, the original poster had an obscure example and so no one really knew what he/she wanted!

I'm trying to create word extensions under syllables, particularly under final syllables. This is an automatic thing in Finale so I figured it'd be possible in MuseScore, but I can't find it. Any help you can provide would be great!

Peace,
Mark

Have you read the Handbook section on Lyrics? Extensions are created by typing underscores ("_"), which automatically extend the syllable one note at a time.

EDIT: too late, but glad you found it!

How do you stretch a word extension when there are no notes? In barbershop, it's common to have (for example) a lead half note, which would have no extension, with the baritones singing two quarter notes. The lyric (which is attached to the lead line) should have an extension covering the bari notes.
