Allow users to specify rests
MuseScore seems like it has potential but it keeps fighting me when it comes to specifying rests. I want to have a palette of different kind of rests (e.g. quarter, eighth, etc.) and specify exactly what I want. With that, perhaps it could me remind me if I have exceeded the measure count. But this is too frustrating when it has its own idea about what my notes and rests should be!

Could you explain a little more what specifically you are trying to do? Entering a rest should be as simple as selecting the rhythmic value just like you would for notes, then hitting "0" instead of a letter. It does take a little getting used to the fact that as you as you enter a note or rest, MuseScore fills the rest of the measure with rests for you, but you can completely ignore that and just enter your own notes and rests.
