Unsupported Chords

• Feb 22, 2011 - 10:09

I'm new to Musescore, so let me apologise in advance if I'm treading over old ground...

I've noticed that some of the chords I commonly used aren't "recongnised" by Musescore. Hence, they won't format correctly when using the Jazz font, and they won't transpose correctly. Two examples I can think of include "add" chords like Cadd9 and 7sus4/7sus2 like A7sus4. Strangely, A7sus seems to work but not A7sus2 or A7sus4.

I searched the forums, and found that these issues have been raised in the past, but still haven't been addressed. Given the speed that musescore is developing, it's made me wonder whether this is low on the list of priorities, or possibly a deliberate decision... am I right in believe that these chords are "right" and do "exist"? I'm mostly self taught as a musician, so I have to frequently check my knowledge of theory

The file chords.xml in the "style" subfolder of the installation describes how chords are recognize.d By editing this file manually, you can get MuseScore to recognize chords however you like. One of the projects I hope to undertake as my own contribution to the project is streamlining this process, but if you browse for other threads on the topic (searching for the term "chords.xml" would be a good start), you'll see samples other have posted.
