Missing commands
Page view and percentage zoom fields have disappeared from my screen display. How do I recover them>

Right-click in the upper toolbar area (just to the right of whatever you have left there, e.g. camera icon) and tick "File Operations" from the drop down menu. Probably you deselected it by accident earlier.
I followed your instructions and find that "File Operations" is already checked however even by unclicking and reclicking the zoom and Page view boxes are still missing. What else could I do?

Then it sounds as though they're just hidden (you may have dragged the bar by accident). Click and drag to the right the very small vertical dotted bar (to the left of the MIDI DIN plug icon) which should reveal the hidden items.
Also, check for something like this:

And when all else fails, see the Handbook under "Revert to factory settings". Another guess is you accidentally undocked the toolbar and moved it offscreen; you could try looking closely at the edges of your display.
