ngMuseScore has stopped worki

• Jan 30, 2016 - 09:13

I'm taking an existing 4 part song written on 2 staves (005 By Cool Siloam" (attached) and want to split each voice out onto separate staves, a task I have done many times before.
WS 2.0.2 in Win 7
I open my source song.
I create a new song with the same key sig, Time signature and no or bars (attached as 005 4v)
I then go to my source song, highlight the whole of the Tenor clef and Cntrl/Y to get a copy.
Now go to the new empty song.
Highlight the first (anacrusis) bar and Cntrl/V to paste what I have copied.
At this point, MuseScore gives the message "MuseScore has stopped working"
WHY? I've this this at least 6 times always giving the same result and I can't see what's causing the issue.

I'm doing this procedure for a number of songs, of which this is the 5th. The previous 4 worked perfectly and the next 6 have also worked perfectly, so there has to be something "odd" about this song,- but what?

Any suggestions, I don't really want to have to re-enter the details manually onto separate staves.

I've also attached source and destination of a song that worked fine,
Source is 003 Step by Step
Destination 003 4v

It seems to me that the problem is the first (anacrusis) bar destination.
If you copy and then paste it into measure 2 seems to work, I do not know why :(
but at least you need to fix only some measures

I've done this so often with out problems. The other example I posted (No 003, Step by Step) also had an anacrusis bar and that worked perfectly.
I've ref-formatted 39 songs and am now producing practice CDs for each part and to do that, I have to separate each part out. This is the first time I've had any problems and it happens every time. There has to be something wrong either with the source or the destination and almost certainly it's that anacrusis but I can't see what it is.

I have deleted that anacrusis from the source file and re-added but it still fails when I do the copy/paste.

I think, the reasons for the crash are the measures 34 and 36 (35 and 37 at the internal count) that are shortened to 2 crotchets.

For me the workflow is easier when I attach the 4 vocal voices to the piano voice. Thus I have already the structure of the measures (and everything else like title, tempo etc.)

After copying the voices I can delete the not required voices using the selection filter (shortcut F6).

I like the idea about adding the voices to what I have and then deleting. On a couple of others, I got into a right mess when I added voltas in the wrong place.

14 completed, just 25 to go for this project.

just checked previous work and I've other songs with shortened last bars (matches the anacrusis) and there were no issues with those.

The crash seems to have to do with an empty lyric on the third beat of measure 31. Not that I actually see any such issue looking at the score, but that's what I see when I duplicate the crash under a debugger. No time to investigate now, but please file an official bug report (use "Issue tracker" link at left, or "Help / Report a Bug" from within MuseScore) and attach these files and steps again, plus add a link back to this thread.

Consistency.

I finished my project (splitting voices onto separate staves) for my 39 songs and all worked fine apart from the one song that causes MS to fail.
I tried it again and the extraction still causes the failure so I thought, I'll start again with this song.
I deleted the original and re-entered it from the start.
Fine, prints ok, plays ok.
Created my 4 empty staves, copied the tenor voices in the new version, went to the separate stave version, pasted my copy and oops! it failed again!
When I first reported this, Marc suggested that the problem was caused by a missing lyric in bar 31, so I deleted bar 31 and tried again, it still failed.
So what ever the bug is, it's totally consistent I how it works (or not).
I shall have to resort to entering each part separately so that I can complete my project.
Just thought, you might be interested.
