Cadenza follow-up

• Feb 6, 2016 - 05:37

This is a follow-up to my question on cadenzas. That post has a clip of the score I was trying to create.

I followed the instructions supplied by Underquark, with one exception - he suggested a 40/8 measure to start with, but when I tested the part creation, the 40/8 measure was too long to fit on a single line, and was truncated - printed off the edge of the page. Sounds like it might be a bug, but it was easy to work around - I changed the 40/8 measure to 2 30/8 measures and voila it worked.

My work spawned two further questions that are related to this.

1. In the parts, the spacing of the rests that I did not set to invisible. These can be moved, obviously - I assume that this is what was meant by "adjust them", but would like to not have to do so much fiddling on individual parts.

2. Suppressing lines in the score - When a line in the full score I am creating have no notes, just rests, is it possible to suppress (not hide) them? By this, I mean remove the line, so that a form of compressed scoring is allowed. For example, if a section only has woodwind parts, the brass parts could be suppressed, allowing for fewer lines on the score. Assuming that enough lines were surpressed, a second set woodwind parts could be printed on the same page, thus eliminating page turns.

Thanks in advance,

Jerry

MuseScore won't "wrap" a single measure that is too long for a system, so it is indeed up to you to figure out how to split it up.

As for your question #1, it's hard to say without seeing the actual score you are having problems with.

For #2, it sounds like you are asking about the option Style / General / Hide empty staves.
