Rehearsal mark & Dynamics option- top & bottom of score?

• Feb 12, 2016 - 12:11

I've come across a number of conductor's scores that have rehearsal marks or dynamics at both the top & bottom of the score. As far as I know, MuseScore only provides them at the top; can it be made an option to provide them at the bottom as well? I can think of some work-arounds, but any subsequent changes in the scoring could throw them out of position.
Thanks,

This might be possible by making a new Style>Text and naming it Rehearsal Mark Lower, or something like that. Copy the Rehearsal Mark style and change the offset and vertical settings. I haven't tried this so someone would have to chime in.

You could indeed manually add a second rehearsal mark and give it a different style. You'd have to attach it to the bottom staff, then hide it in the part. This should survive relayout just fine.

Ultimately, what would be nice is the abiltiy to define which staves display "system" markings like rehearsal marks, tempo text, etc. In orchestra scores, for example, these would typically appear at the top but also above the strings. Finale allows you to define a "staff list" for each such marking, and I guess we could do that too, but probably it would address most concerns to just have a checkbox in Staff Properties that says "Display system text", and if checked, then system text would display on that staff (as well as the top staff).

Dynamics are normally added to and display on *every* staff individually; they are not normally "system" elements displayed on the top staff only. By "normally", I mean that's how actual printed music does it almost universally. But in principle, we could some day add a "System dynamics" type for the benefit of those who for whatever reason prefer not to follow the standard and would instead want dynamics to appear on certain staves only, but still appear on all parts.
