Plugin How-to

• Feb 15, 2016 - 02:37

I'm so confused on how to install a plugin. The plugin I want to install is the TempoChanges plugin by jeetee. I am using Windows. Can anyone give me a step by step in understandable words on how to install this plugin. And please don't say to read the handbook because I have and I'm still clueless.

Thx.

You've downloaded and extracted the plugin. It is in a folder (for example on the desktop);
Open Preferences, click on the Plugins folder. It opens the destination folder;
Drag the plugin in that destination

How are you trying to move it? Sounds like maybe you are using a program called "7-zip", so you shoudl consult the documentation for that program to learn how to extract files into a specified folder. I would assume there is an "Extract" or similarly-named button, though, and when you click it, it should ask you where you want to extract to. Or, you can extract to wherever the default is, then use Windows Explorer or Finder or whatever program you normally use to move files around an do it that way.

It's very likely you have 7zip set as default archiver program. Standard .zip file support however is built-in to Windows. Let's see if it works for you this way:

  1. Open an explorer window, navigate to where you've downloaded the MuseScore_TempoChanges-2.1.zip file
  2. Right-click it and select Cut
  3. In the Address bar type %UserProfile%\Documents\MuseScore2\Plugins and press Enter. The address bar will now change and navigate you into the plugins folder for MuseScore
  4. Right-click in that folder and select Paste
  5. Right-click the just pasted zipfile and select Extract All…
  6. In that popup, remove the last part of the path:
    tempoChanges_extract.png
    Choose Extract
  7. A new folder called MuseScore_TempoChanges-2.1 will be created
  8. You may now delete the zip-file

If you now start MuseScore and go to Plugins > Plugin Manager the plugin should show up in that list. Check the box in front of it to enable it.

The plugin should now show up under the Plugins menu.
