Multi-measure rests

• Mar 23, 2011 - 17:19

I am not sure whether this is a bug or a feature request. But, depending on the circumstances, there can be too much space between the end of a multi-measure rest and the following barline. Please see the attached file.

This seems to occur particularly when the rest is immediately preceded by a key or meter signature change. I believe what is occurring is that the rest is being centered between the two barlines. But when there is a signature change just before the rest, this results in unnecessary space at the end.

I would hope this could be corrected in a future version. But in addition, I would like to see a way to manually adjust the position of the ends of the multi-measure rest -- perhaps with a pair of “handles” as when one double clicks onto a beam or hairpin. There have been occasions where I have needed to insert various things (such as courtesy clefs, small noteheads to indicate timpani tuning, etc.) but I couldn’t because the ending points of the rest were not adjustable.

Keep up the excellent work.

Hello

I don't know if this helps with your problem, but in 1.0 you can change the position of the multi-measure rest within the bar. You can't change the size of it, but double-clicking on the left side selects it, and you can reposition it using the arrow keys. That should give you some room to put stuff in front of it.
