Little inconvenience when making multiple triplets

So i have an issue that is becoming kind of frustrating, when i of example want to write a triplet for a total duration a quarter note, well i click the quarter note and the i press ctrl 3, but the if i want to create a triplet after that, selected figure is an eight note, so if a press ctrl 3, the triplet total duration will be an eight note, and is really painful when i want to write multiple triplets of the same length one after another because i need to chose quarter note-create triplet-put the notes of the triplet- selecte quarter note again, so does someone knows a way to comeback to the original figure that was selected, meaby a preference.
