Version timetable?
Just wondering what the current revision of 0.9.5 is numbered, is this the revision I will get if I download 0.9.5 from the web site and install it over my present copy, and if there's a projected date for the release of a stable 0.9.6? I'm running revision 2012 on XP. Tried downloading and installing a new copy a month or two ago; still came up revision 2012 (which I originally installed last September). Thanks.

The revision number of 0.9.5 is indeed 2012. This is the last stable version and indeed the one you download when you click on the download button in the header of the website.
The next stable release, 0.9.6, is due to be released somewhere at the end of Q1 of 2010. But first, we need to release 0.9.6-beta and get feedback to see how stable this release currently is. After that, we can have a more clear view on a release date.

I have tried to use the latest prerelease of 0.9.6 and I was surprised at how unstable I found it for my purposes compared to 0.9.5. It continuously errored and crashed compared to 0.9.5, which never crashes for me. I haven't tried any of the nightly releases yet, since I assumed they were LESS stable than the prerelease, but after looking through the forums, I'm wondering if the latest nightly is not more stable since some of the problems I'm having with the prerelease seem to have been fixed in the latest nightly releases.

The nightly builds are more unpredictable since they contain brand-new code. Sometimes they are more stable than the previous prerelease other times they are less stable. I don't recommend using nightly builds for important work unless you are following the bug reports and changelog very closely and willing to take some risks.
In the last few weeks at lot of important bugs have been fixed. The past week or so I have started using the nightly builds more frequently because we are coming up to a release and I want to make sure that the next version works well for me in the ways that I use MuseScore. I encourage you to try the beta when it comes out and report any bugs you encounter.
