v2.0 for Ubuntu - Cannot Install

I have tried the link for installing version 2.0 on Ubuntu but it does not work. In fact, it just keeps installing v1.3. I have completely removed v1.3 but get the same results every time. I looked in the PPA and it says that version 2.0 (both i386 and amd64) failed to build. Can someone look into this? Your help is greatly appreciated.

v 2.0 on 14.04 can happen for you now but you need install the latest (5.4) version of Qt. I have MuseScore 2.0 working in ubuntu 10.04 and can't remember the exact steps required to get the latest Qt but just follow the instructions on their website, including how to set your $PATH to point at the location of the Qt files.

A package for 14.04 is now available.

Note that using the MuseScore stable PPA on Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty) will also upgrade various Qt5 components, so if anything breaks, please let me know. I have tested the package and PPA on my own 14.04 system, and it seems fine, but I could easily have missed something, since my configuration is likely to be different from that of other people.

I have looked in the PPA and see that the build was now successful, and now when I go into synaptic to do the install, I see that the version for the musescore package has been updated to version 2. However, when I try to install it, I get the following error:

musescore:
Depends: qtbase-abi-5-3-0
Depends: musescore-common but it is not going to be installed

I have looked for a package called qtbase-abi-5-3-0 and it does not exist in the repositories. I am using Ubuntu 14.10.

Thanks for any instructions you can give me so I can proceed with the install.

I'm not sure what's going on here, but 'qtbase-abi-5-3-0' is what's known as a "virtual package", which is provided by another package -- in this case, libqt5core5a. The PPA determines these dependencies automatically, and as far as I can see, it is working fine. I'm not sure what you did to install, but perhaps it was something unorthodox.

If you run `sudo apt-get -f install`, you should find that the required packages are pulled in. If not, then run `sudo apt-get updata && sudo apt-get install musescore`.

I think you should spend the couple of minutes installing the PPA. There are instructions on how to do this on the PPA page, under 'Adding this PPA to your system': open 'Software Sources', and then add "ppa:mscore-ubuntu/mscore-stable".

I've already had one user in the last few hours with a broken system because they installed a .deb file that did not fit with the one in the archives, and I think that -- if you have a hard time working with the terminal -- it would be best if you don't end up similarly.

I would like share my light-and-shadow experience upgrading to musescore2.0 with ubuntu 14.04.
The installing did very well: i had just to upgrade the repository, explicitely uninstall the former version, and install.
After the upgrade tho, i have very frequent crash, whilst with old Musescore1.3 crash were not a problem.
I appreciate the new functions, but i would not redo the upgrade because I am loosing my work more and more time, and the work is consequently slower.

Crash happen suddenly and the prog ends without saving.
To install i had to uninstall the older version and add the repository.

I trust the next version will solve the problem. Basing on my experience tho, I did not upgrade another pc with ubuntu 14.04, and i would keep the 1.3 version.

Sorry to hear about your crahsing issues. But we can't fix problems unless people provide us with details. There have been almost no reports of crashes thus far, yours are among the first. It might be that somethign went wrong with your installation, or it might be a specific problem with one specific file or one specific thing you are trying to do. We would love to fix whatever the problrm is, but would need you to give us more details - post the file you are having problems with and precise step by step instructions to reproduce the crash.

I was wrong.
During those other two working days i changed my mind: Musescore 2.0 is doing very well under lubuntu 14.04. with no more crashes under normal working circumstance. I am now sure, after two day of work that is useful to upgrade to Musescore 2.0 under ubuntu 14.04.

I think that crashes was related with a file xml that i was tring to modify despite the fact that that muse score was correctly marking as bugged. I had those bugsy files scanning a tif file with another software (audiveris).

As soon as i abandoned those files, i had no more crashes.

I am sorry for not beeng able to give better details, beeng not at all a linux expert.
I reloaded a bunch of those files right now for experiment and they are able to hang musescore.

I would like to deeply thank mr Marc Sabatella for his formidable work, and to thanks too he and all guys for their kind caring for my troubles. I feel sorry sorry to have worried the staff just for with my mistake.

I consider the name Marc Sabatella somehow like Guido D'Arezzo two important italian names for the music of this world :-)

High praise indeed :-) But of course, I'm really just one contributor - one who happens to post a lot. Werner, lasconic, Miwarre and others are really deserving of all of our thanks!

And, speaking of thanks, thanks for the update. When I said there were almost no known crashes in 2.0, problems resulting from corrupt files created in earlier versions or from questionable MusicXML files are indeed among the known examples. We are working hard to fix the problems that get reported, so if you steps to reproduce a problem with a given MusicXML file, do go ahead and post it if possible. If it's truly corrupt, there isn't anything we can do, but maybe its a bug in our import.

Cannot install still.

I am still having this problem. I am running a Chromebook with Crouton and Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS with KDE Plasma. My Windows system is dead and I am trying the switch to Chromebook/Linux to see if it will suffice.

I have added the ppa to my repository and it looks OK from what I can see. However I am still getting showing 1.3 of musescore.

I try to install from Synaptic and from bash with apt-get upgrade followed by apt-get install musescore. The bash message is

musescore is already the newest version.

I see my Qt is 4.8.6. I am not clear on which package to install to update Qt. At any rate Synaptic shows 5.2.1

I had the same problem until there was Musescore 1,3 on my pc.
I uninstalled it with this command:
"sudo apt-get remove musescore"

then i reinstalled again and all was right
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mscore-ubuntu/mscore-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get musescore

Cannot install 2.0 on Chromebook - solved for me

Thanks. I thought I had done that, but I retried it and it worked.

Of course, the sound was working in 1.3, and now is not in 2.0. But I have some hints to try about that.

Also solved - turns out my install of Crouton with KDE did not include Pulseaudio. So I installed that and audio works.

I have tried for three days to install on Ubuntu on my Chromebook (Samsung ARM) and I keep getting errors. Using Crouton, I have installed Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS with XFCE. I can get Audacity to work (yeah!) which solves half my problem. My laptop has died and I was hoping this would allow me to continue using MuseScore. I admit I am a complete novice with Linux and am sure it must be me doing something wrong. I have followed the directions as best I can. I did have to use the command:
sudo apt-get software-properties-common
in order to get the add-apt command to work. So perhaps there is something else that I don't know about. The error I get after sudo apt-get install musescore is:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
musescore : depends: musescore-soundfont-gm but it is not going to be installed.
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Does anybody have a clue how to fix this?

Realistically, it probably would have been easier had you bought an Intel-based Chromebook rather than ARM. Running on a Chromebook via Crouton is possible - that's my setup too, but Intel. Have you found a special ARM build of MuseScore that you have set your system to find?

I maintain the PPA so I can request an ARM build of the Musescore packages, but I don't have an ARM machine so won't be able to test it for you. Take care when installing it, but I'd be grateful if you let me know if it works for you. ARM build requests require manual approval so I don't know how long it will take, but I'll let you know when it's ready.

Well, my next Chromebook will be Intel, this one was a gift.
However, I did search these forums before trying to do this, and I found at least one poster who said they were using a Samsung series 3 and had successfully installed MuseScore 2.0. So I thought it was at least possible.
In my three days of trials, I did at one point have MuseScore show up, but it was v1.3 and there was no sound. I cannot even get back to that state now.

Currently have version 1.3. When I test for my version of the OS I get
$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Peppermint

I have tried adding the repository, updating, installing, uninstalling, installing again:

501 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mscore-ubuntu/mscore-stable
502 sudo apt-get update
503 sudo apt-get install musescore
504 sudo apt-get uninstall musescore
505 sudo apt-get remove musescore
506 sudo apt-get install musescore

but I still have version 1.3.

Is the problem with Qt? Here is my current version
This program uses Qt version 4.8.1.
If so, how do I update?
