MuseScore to recognize backup files by default

• Jun 7, 2015 - 23:11

It would be nice if MuseScore would recognize (as in, be able to open after a double-click) backup files that are simply unhidden, but not renamed from .mscz, to something else.

Every other software under the sun (that I know of) can recognize a familiar format in a file regardless of the name or extension but MuseScore seems to be an exception to that rule.

It would really help with sorting out backups faster.

Thanks.

Actually, I just renamed a MOV file to DOCX and a PDF to MP3, and I couldn't open them. But I agree that that's a good idea.

What were you trying to open it with?

VLC can open it just fine.

You're not supposed to open it by double-clicking on it after you changed the extension, but by going to your program's open menu and selecting the file after successfully browsing to it.

I have never had software not work like that, Microsoft Office does that very well as well, I'm sure you're doing something wrong unless you're using some ancient piece of software or just double-clicking on it expecting your media player to pick it up.

You are supposed to be bypassing the default association from your operating system.

Messing with backup files should be extremely uncommon - I've probably needed to only a handful of times in the four+ years I've been using MuseScore. I assume the idea is to not make it easy for people to accidentally open the backup thinking it is the original - it is extremely common here on the forum for people to confuse the two and attach the backup.
