3. Select no key
4.Default time and bars (4/4 and 12 bars)

Take a look to the handbook. Drum notation
I think you have to select a rest before N.

Thanks for your reply!
The point is: When i remain within the first bar the palette wont be loaded but as soon as i switch over to a different bar
the palette is loaded. BUT not always!
Why is the drum palette not showing up just from the beginning?
I have also freezing musescore while editing drum tracks!
My system is:
XP SP3 patched to the latest MS patch, NIS2009 and musescore excluded from scan.
Pentium 4Ghz, 2Gb RAM

The palette isn't loaded until you select an instrument because the contents of the drum palette depends on whether you select a drumset staff, cymbal staff, or anther type of percussion staff.
With regards to freezes or crashes please see if you can reproduce them consistently and report the steps on the forum. That way we can weed these out, hopefully before the next stable release of MuseScore.

Hi David,
in my fisrt post i mentioned:
2.Select Percussion / Drumset 5 lines
So i have selected a instrument. If you refering to the individual drumset instrument like a bassdrum,
this is not possible, because the palette is not loaded and therefore no individual instrument are available.
Regarding the freezes:
They realy randomizing! This is also reported from a colleague of mine, which recomended musecomp to me.
He is more in chart writing and less in drum stuff. But he tried also to edit some drum tracks with same result of freezing and CDT's while editing. This just to exclude a HW or SW fault on my rig.
Try to play around with drum editing and see what happens ((--::
I will also try to workout a procedure to reproduce the freezings.
Thanks!
Christian

When I said "select an instrument" I was referring to step 1 described under the "Mouse" heading of drum notation . I was explaining the big picture. It is possible to have more than one type of percussion staff in the same score.

Hi David,
1. I followed step by step the manual for drum notation as you suggest. Sometimes the pallete will show individual instruments like cymbal, tom's etc. and sometimes NOT.
I dont know if this behavior has to do with a fresh start of the programm.
2. If i can manage to get the palette working and the prog. does not freeze, there is no sound for the drum track.
Threre is sound when i just start the prog. and play the demo.
Regarding the freezings:
As i described bevor there is no way to work out a procedure when the prog. freezes.
Just randomizing!

If you haven't already done this read the SoundFont page of the manual. Once you set up a General MIDI SoundFont you should be able to hear percussion and other non-piano instruments
I haven't encountered the freezes when working with drums in the latest prerelease probably since I don't work with drums notation in MuseScore very often. Freezes and crashes can often seem random but there is usually a series of steps for reproducing them. When I discover odd behavior in MuseScore sometimes I can find the steps that cause it almost immediately. Other times it can take several days before I work it out, or even weeks.

Hi David,
finally i got it to work with FluidR3_GM.sf2 which seems to have a proper drum soundmapping to the individual drum instruments.
I still have the freezings and the taskmanager shows 54% workload to mscore.exe when this happens.
I have to shut down mscore.exe over the taskmanager.
Take the attached simpel drum groove and add furher 8 notes for hi-hat, delete and change note value to 16-th etc. just play around with editing and deleting. The freezing will show up.

Maybe you are double clicking on the drum palette? Just single click on the items from the drum palette as described in the handbook.
Bug report filed: http://musescore.org/en/node/1527

Hi David,
thanks for your reply and adding it to the bug's database. I try to avoid clicking around to much ((--;;!!
Another issue does arise while playing around with drumscore editing.
1. Open File
2. Select N
3. Select 8 th note
4. Select hi-hat closed out of the palette
5. add a bar just with 8th note hi-hat
According to the distance to the previous note it is possible to add 16, 32, 64 notes even 8 note is selected
Why is this possible?

Yes that is a known issue in version 0.9.4 or later.

will this be fixed?

Apparently this has been a difficult bug to fix (there have been several attempts already). When it is fixed we will mark it off the list of regressions . (It's the first item listed under 0.9.4)
Hi David,
ok, now i understand the meaning of this entry in the regression list.
Good hunting !
