separating 8th notes
Rencontres.mscz Whenever I enter a string of 8th notes, they are automatically connected by a bar. What can I do to separate an 8th note from this string, so it appears separately (I should be able to do that because of the words that connect to the music)? I have not been able to find a solution in the handbook.

Thanks a lot! I know now how to "unbeam" 8th notes, but I have not been able to join two separate ones by a beam. In the handbook it says that I should select a note and double click on the "start a beam at this note" icon in the "Beam" menu, but this has no effect. Perhaps I have missed a beat here.

If there are two notes not joined by default that you want joined, "start a beam" won't help. It won't create new beams; just break existing ones. To create a new beam, you need to select the second note and say "middle of beam".
