Total noob with some basic questions.

Hello--
I am a singer who has decided it's smarter to rely on myself to teach myself how to use my computer to provide instrumentation for me than to rely on other people to decide to join a band. I know how to write music, put it on a staff, etc--I have some background in music theory--which is why I chose this software. But I am not technologically fluent.

So, as I'm exploring MuseScore, I have a couple of basic questions to start with:

How do I identify which SoundFonts available for free download are General MIDI-128-compatible?

How do I install the SoundFonts onto my computer such that I will get them to playback when I press Play on MusesScore?

Thanks in advance. I'm sure I'll have a few more questions along the way.

Sincerely,
Whittier Strong

Have you read Soundfont ?
The easiest way to know if a soundfont is compatible with MuseScore is to try it. Download the soundfont, uncompress it if necessary and go to Display -> Synthesizer to browse to the soundfont.

I did read it but I didn't understand it. I wasn't sure if there was anything special I had to do to move the SoundFont from downloaded status to something that could be read by MuseScore, like an install feature in MuseScore or something. I don't have headphones on me, so when I go home, I will try this out.

Thanks

I did what you said, and was able to get the sound to output if I run the Mussorgsky sample piece the programme comes with, but can't get audio for an original composition.

But all of this opened up a bigger issue. I'm thinking I might need a different programme. MuseScore appears to run along the lines of "input: music score, output: music score file." What I thought it was, and what would much better suit my needs, is "input: music score, output" audio file." This doesn't seem to be the case.

Does anyone know of a way I can convert MuseScore files into audio files, say, a way I can export the file to some other programme (suggestion?) that I can convert it into an audio file?

As it stands, MuseScore could suit my needs for singing along in live performance, but doesn't serve any other audio capacities for my needs.

Thank you very much
