Sax note entry pitch way off

• Jul 27, 2011 - 02:40

When I select 'Tenor Sax' in the 'Create Instruments' panel, the pitch of the sax notes is correct UNTIL I go into 'Note Entry' mode; at which point the notes come out one octave and a step too low in pitch. (I'm entering notes with a MIDI keyboard). I don't have this pitch problem with other instruments, such as piano or bass, etc.
Interestingly; if I select 'Piano' in the 'Create Instruments' panel, and then go to the 'Mixer / Part List' panel and change the 'Sound:' of the piano to 'Tenor Saxophone', the sax notes come out in proper pitch, both in and out of 'Note Entry' mode.
I have tried this on two different computers with the same results, using Windows XP SP3, and both MuseScore versions 1.0 and prerelease 1.1.

Tenor saxophones are transposing instruments, meaning they sound an octave and a step lower than written. that's the way they are in real life, that's the way it is in MuseScore. But MuseScore allows you to enter pitches at the actual pitch (as opposed to the written pitch) by clicking the "Concert Pitch" button at top left.
