underscore character is not continued in figured bass

• Feb 27, 2016 - 11:37

Hi,
I'm certainly doing something stupid, but at the beginning of measure 2 I can't get the line of the figured bass continued up to the next bass.
It just stays a single underscore character instead of becoming a "true" line.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try:
Double-click after "5"> __ (two underline);
Space bar > __ (two underline);
Space bar > __ (two underline)...
I don't know the music so I'm not sure you mean this

Thanks for the help, but sorry, it doesn't work here.
Entering double underscores as you say display a correct lign while editing the figured bass, but as soon as I quit the editing mode the lign becomes a simple underscore again.

This why I want: underline from digit 5 from under note b until next note (d).
And then nothing under f.

It works, thanks!

Do I correctly understand that it means that horizontal alignment must be redone every time the soprano (e.g.) changes in size (e.g. sixteenth notes instead of a quarter) ?
Don't you think that duration in the figured bass should be automatically aligned with duration in the voices?

<>.

==> it is nice as the bass voice itself is aligned with the three other voices.

But it is not fully the case as when the bass is a half note and the figured bass two quarters (as here), each quarters should take half the space of the half note instead of the current behavior (or of course even better be used as another voice in the set of voices to align)

By the way what is the prefered duration names in messages posted here, should we use whole/half/quarter/... or semibrave/minim/crotchet/... ?

Other "things" with figured bass:

-Undo (ctrl Z) gives message 'Command undo is unavailable' instead of "undoing".
-ctrl-s (save) doesn't do anything (but write !! in the bass)
-ctrl + number to change the duration works but there is no feedback in the tool bar, the last selected duration stays displayed

Ok after some experiences, more info on my problem:
Starting from no figured bass at all in measure 2.
Click on first quarter in the bass in measure 2 (b).
ctrl g
5
_
ctrl 6
5
As far as I understand https://musescore.org/en/handbook/figured-bass
"Continuation lines are drawn for the whole duration of the figured bass group"
the line should be drawn for the duration of the group (a half), but is not at all: it stays a single underscore.
Now same test with double underscore:
Starting from no figured bass at all in measure 2.
Click on first quarter in the bass in measure 2 (b).
ctrl g
5
_
_
ctrl 6
5
==> now we get the desired result, (see attached capture.png) ... BUT in fact there must be nothing under the f, so let's delete the last entered 5... Problem ! (see attached capture2.png) The line becomes again a single underscore.
I'm becoming crazy...
