Musescore Freezing on Startup
I'm running window 7 Pro 64 bit and since upgrading to 2.0.3 MS is taking a long time to start and during the start-up process the system freezes - IE the cursor can't be moved and the little spinning circle stops spinning.
I've monitored it over the last few days and it's taken between 45 seconds and 1 minute 50 seconds to start. I still have 1.3 installed and that starts within a few seconds.
I'm not sure what more information I can give that might help. Is there a log file somewhere that I could attach?

Did 2.0.2 start faster? What if you add the "-w" option to the command line start up without the web view?

Not sure about 2.0.2. I hardly use it.
Well, I'm having trouble running CMD. I haven't used it for ages so am probably doing something wrong. I've attached a screen shot of a few of my attempts. Can anybody help?
Also, I've discovered since I posted the original problem that it is only the first time that I use MS after starting Windows that I get this freeze. If I open MS for a second time during a session, having closed it at some point previously, it starts normally. Don't know if that helps

Try doing it using the run dialog...
See:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/revert-factory-settings-0#instruction…
The link above shows the '-F' command. Simply replace '-F' with '-w'.
Regards.

What about trying with -s ?

Yes, that's made a big difference. It's starting from "cold" in 15 to 25 seconds. Does that give us a way forward?

The -s disables the audio driver. Could you tell us which audio driver you have on your Windows?

Also, could you try to download, extract and run this version of MuseScore: https://musescore.org/en/download/musescore-win64.7z It's a 64bit version.

I'm using the driver for the HDMI output from my video card. I have several audio devices installed so I tried using another one as the default sound device and that started fairly quickly. Interestingly when I switched back to my HDMI device and restarted my machine MS opened quite quickly too. I'm not sure if that makes sense. I'll trying a few more times later in the day and get back to you
I downloaded the 64 bit version and unpacked it. I couldn't see any way to install it so I tried clicking on the .exe. That opened quickly too

The 64 bit is not supposed to be installed. Just unpack and run.
I'm interested to learn more if you would be able to single out the audio driver which causes the slow loading.

Thomas, sorry but it seems to have resolved itself. As I said, once you'd told me the -s option disables the audio driver I decided to try a different device on my system. That worked perfectly so I switched back to my preferred driver (the HDMI driver from my video card) and that has behaved itself ever since - I've restarted the machine 4 times now and MS has started normally each time after the restart.
Let me know if you want any more details
