@Arvid Rosenblut please state which Firefox version you are using and on which operating system. Please check as well if you have the playback problem using another browser such as Chrome.

Hi Thomas and Maol, sorry to hijack the conversation. This also happens to me since some days - IE 10.0.9200.16736 on Windows 8 64-bit. I didn't updated since my last forum post regarding this issue.
Anyway, I finally installed Google Chrome - and the play controls on the website works okay in this browser.

I am using Windows 7 and Chrome, version 31.0.1650.59 m.

Chrome version 50.0.2661.102 m (the one I'm using for playing) works good
