Adding text instructions to jazz leadsheet
I want to add text instructions onto a jazz lead sheet. For example write in "medium Samba" on the chart, or "improv freely" over an open section of 8 bars, or "Coda same as Intro" or whatever.
Also I want mark the A and B sections by making a box around the capital A and B.
Now, when I try to do this by selecting a note or rest and then hitting Text on the Create menu it overwrites my chord symbols.
These are standard techniques on handwritten leadsheets I have used for years. How do I do them in Musescore?

Yes, I plowed through that, and downloaded the online manual, searched on everything i could find about adding text.
The guy that wrote the tutorial on leadsheets actually has, in his sample score, little text boxes like I want to create, but his tutorial doesn't show how to do it, and I couldn't find it anywhere in the manuals. The text properties dialog box doesn't have a feature for making a text box.
Overall, I'm loving the simplicity and user-friendliness of musescore, but this has me stumped.
Maybe I'm overlooking something that's extremely simple??

Should be as simple as click a note and pressing Ctrl-T (the shortcut for Create->Text->Staff Text). That does not overwrite chord symbols; in fact, the text gets added *below* the staff when using the Jazz Lead Sheet template, specifically to avoid colliding with chord symbols. if you want text above the staff, you can press Shift-Ctrl-T (the shortcut for Create->Text->System Text), but you might have to move either the text of a chord symbol to avoid collision.

you'll find the instructions on adding text in the section called "Text and Other Markings".
But this has nothing to do with "boxes". If you want boxes around your text, you do that via Text Properties. Or, you can use the "Rehearsal Mark" feature (Ctrl-M), which automatically places boxes around any text.
