new scores creates narrow measures along one line instead of many lines

• Aug 2, 2016 - 00:38

Hello,
For some reason every time i create a new score, all the measures are narrow and created along one long line of ten measures instead of like four per line and lets say eight lines per page.
see pics.
How does one straighten this issue out either when starting a new score, or once created, arranging the layout so it looks more or less neat and standard. When I try to add or delete measures it does this on a second line, never allowing me to get rid of any measures one first line. In the end I want four or eight measures per line for a whole page....
thanks!

It works for any line. Not sure what you might have been doing wrong - maybe you tried selecting the measure instead of the barline? But anyhow, as mentioned, you really should not be adding line breaks before entering notes. Everything spaces automatically and correctly according to standard conventions of music typesetting if you leave it alone. If you interfere by inserting line breaks at arbitrary places, your music spacing will not be as good as it should be. When you are done entering notes if you still feel you want to fine tune things you are welcome to, bu guessing at how many measures will look good before you've enetered the notes is seldom going to produce good results. Just let MsueScore do its thing unless you are producing some special purpose format where you absolutely know you will want a certain number of measures on a line (eg, some fakebooks or music for small children will force four measures per line).
