Measure Numbers

Is there a way to make measure numbers appear below the measure as opposed to above it? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't think so.

I'm not sure why you would want to do this - conventionally bar numbers are printed above the barline, so players have come to expect them to be in that position. If you change that you are liable to confuse the musicians playing your score, which is never a good idea.

If you limit your bar numbers to the first bar of every line, which seems to be the usual practice these days, that will help with spacing for all the other items which have to be placed on our scores.

At least it is easy to control these days with computers - unlike the old days, when very often a score would arrive without bar numbers and you would then have to go through and add them yourself. Usually finding that you'd miscounted at some point and have to start again to find out where :)

Also, generally, you'd have the measure numbers very close to the top line, and the other markings you mention further up. Take a look at published scores to see how they do it. I'mot saying there aren't sometimes going to be collisions to work around - especially if you are doing jazz charts and need to add chord symbols to all of the above - but I agree that moving measure numbers to a non-standard place is probably not the best solution.

Still, if you really want, it is possible to do so by adjusting the measure number text style - set the Y offset to or so. You will have to reload the score in order to see your changes.
