Request for clarification: could someone explain to me (with holy patience) the Third Method?

I never knew that existed until recently. Doesn't seem to work in 2.0 development builds. But in 1.3:
1) press N to enter Note Input mode
2) press 5 C S D E S F
You should get a slur from the C to the E. The slurs starts when you press S the first time and keeps extending as you add more notes, until you press S again.
In 2.0, you just get a slur from the C to the D - it doesn't extend as you add more notes.

Indeed it seems to me that it works only with the keyboard (while I I tried with the mouse)
